The story opens on Lena Haloway, almost 18, who is scheduled to receive her “Cure”— the Cure of Love. In this futuristic, dystopian society, love is a disease, known as “amor deliria nervosa” . Every citizen above the age of 18 must be cured of the disease, before it completely overtakes and ruins their lives. 

Lena’s mother has previously escaped being cured, and remains a part of Lena’s tainted past. 

But just before she recieves her procedure, one she truly believes will save her life from love, Lena meets someone. A BOY.
